I started slow and just kept on passing people the entire race. My legs could only take me one speed and with no hills it just happened to be fast enough. The whole field just seemed to come right back to me today. I passed four people in the last 200. I don't think I've ever done that before. I was also one second off my 5k PR.
I still cannot believe I actually ran this, someone pinch me. No, this was awesome. I have run horribly for the last four weeks because of sickness, leg issues, etc. I dreaded running every day. I said last night that however I ran today would be how I always will remember the entire season. If I ran bad, it would be the season I started but never finished. If I ran well, it would be the year I started well, struggled, but got it together in the end. Well, it was the latter. Heck, I wasn't even supposed to run in the varsity race today. I'm not sure I'd done anything recently to deserve it. I almost quit the season on Wednesday. How quickly things can change! And, finally for the better and not the worse. So after that disgusting outburst of self-flattery, WE, the B-team still lost to half the teams there, which just shows how badly we have our work cut out for us next for next year. I know I am not nearly good enough to come close to scoring for a competitive team right now, although I am a lot closer than I was yesterday.
The weather was nice.
