Maiden Peak Snowshoe

January 15, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Other

Comments:
It was WARM and RAINY the bulk of the day. Started out nice: maybe 30 and the snow was firm. Started out on Gold Lk Road, which was wide and a gradual downhill (1.5mi), then 2+ mi gradual uphill on Maiden Pk trail to the PCT. Actually jogged the first several miles (w/my non-running snowshoes + poles I got from REI) til I got on the tight Maiden trail. Once I got to the PCT (about 4mi in 1.25hr), it began to light rain/mist. Spent a half hour trying to find the trail (my tracks must be hilariously confusing), then basically blazed a trail on my own nearly 4mi up some steep grades. ALMOST made it to the very top, but I turned back because it was nearly a steady rain, my feet were wet and getting numb and I kept losing the trail!

Couldn't jog most of the 2nd half because it was so soggy. 5.5hr total feet time -- a nice initial workout for WS100.
