Dr. Miskovski Tosses Me a Lifeline

February 1, 2011 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Inside Veale

Comments:
After the elliptical I ran a couple miles on the indoor track with the soles of shoes taped to my feet. It sort of worked, but the tape kept falling off and this is clearly not a long-term solution.

I saw Dr. Miskovski and she told me my peroneal tendons are inflamed to the point where I need to wear a boot for two weeks. She told me if I did anything more on it I would likely rupture the tendon. I asked it there was anything we could do to speed up the timetable and she suggested a cortisone shot ONLY if I promised to NOT run at all and not elliptical either. She gave me the shot right there and I walked away with a boot.

If I had chosen not to have the shot, I could have still ran on the indoor track and could have still used the elliptical so it was not a decision without some sacrifice. However, right now I strongly believe I made the right choice for my tendon to heal. Some ridiculous circus event where I tape pads on my feet is only a cheap substitute for actual healthy running. It was time to bite the bullet.

This season is not yet lost because I can still swim and bike. I know I complain about these things a lot but I swam competitively for 10 YEARS. If I can't get a good workout that way, that's my fault.I am still allowed to bike, swim, and aqua-jog and I plan to give Outdoor my best shot. The word quit is not in my vocabulary.
