All-Ohio meet...and I can't help but think where I was a year ago, just watching. I was a spectator.
This year was a little different. We won the DMR and I came up oh so close to scoring in the mile despite a slight PR (but a huge PR for a flat track).
I ran what I would consider the worst tactical race in the history of racing for my 1200 leg of the DMR. Despite my awful tactics, I still managed to run a 3:13 and hand off in 4th, only 2 seconds off what I ran at CMU. I wanted around 3:08 and to hand off in at least 2nd, and honestly, I think I could have done it, but I was in awful position early. Thank God that Jim and Perisa pulled us back in it, getting Chris the baton in 1st. At that point, I knew we had it. When it comes to the UAA meet, I'll need to get out hard, get good position and make sure the pace is honest. I think a 3:05-3:06 is realistic if I can run even.
In the mile, I took it out much harder. I was in 3rd after the opening turn and I think it may have been the first time this season that I wasn't in last through that first turn. My legs felt really heavy, and I kind of lost my composure, letting the top two guys get away. I should have gone with them because I closed in a 31. I should have thrown in the kick from 400 out rather than 200. I still got a PR, which was awesome considering my old one was on a banked track. Pretty pissed I didn't score though.
All in all, I did a hell of a lot better than I did last year.
