Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Veale track

Comments:
So today was 10x400 again. Going in I was still pretty nervous about it but for some reason a little less than normal. I'll get to that later.
My calves were tight warming up. I thought about asking to move the workout to tomorrow night but I went ahead with it. Kinda wish I would have waited in hindsight but its okay.
Got right into it pretty much ran alone the whole way because Grogan went home sick and everyone else was doing extra rest and less repeats. Felt good going though these and by good I mean completely destroyed which is good. I was consistant with the times pretty much. I was afraid I might have started too fast but it ended up being okay. CoachL told me afterward that she thought I looked really smooth running them which is how it should be since this is goal mile pace.
I had to pull out after 8.5 reps becasue my calves were destroyed. I'm confident that I could have continued the 3 last laps at the pace I was running so its not a big deal. Probably not picked it up but mantained which is what the workout is about so its a true estimate of where I'm at. Now its all about feeling good going into confrence next weekend.
So this workout started me down the path of believing that maybe I can take a shot at getting a national qualifying time at confrence. I have several reasons outside this workout to back this up.
1)In the DMR on Saturday I came through the 1200 in 3:10.6 then basically jogged it in in 66.6. If I push through I feel like I should be able to close this in 63-64 which puts me in the 4:13-14 range which will be right around the cutoff for nationals.
2)The race should set up perfectly to get a qualifying time. Both Holgate and Bussier have hit prov but their times probably aren't good enough to qualify them for nationals so they'll be trying to get something quick in this race.
3)Turlip has got to think he can set the UAA record. Hes run 4:06, the record is 4:11, and theres 2 weeks between confrence and nationals this year so theres extra time to recover. This should encourage a fast pace early which is what has been lacking in my other races. I've either gone out hard like 2:06-07 and been all alone or sat early going for the win and finished hard late. Theres a lot of milers in the UAA that can go out in 2:06 and finish so hopefully thats what will happen and I can hang around and kick with them and get the time.
Outside of Turlip I think I can run with anybody in the UAA.
Also I'll be running the 3k at confrence but I think you can tell which race I'm getting focused on.
10x400 with a minute rest
Splits: 63.27, 62.92, 64.12, 63.46, 64.19, 63.62, 63.82, 64.07, (31 then drop cuz of calves)
Average: 63.68 pace of a 4:14.72 mile
4:13.16 made it last year. If I'm that close I'm going for it!
