City Championships at BW. I remember this meet from a year ago. I though very hard about PRing, and I ran the exact same time. Does lighting strike the same place twice?
Got to BW pretty early, spent most of the day chilling around, talking to people. Lots of spectators showed up around the 5k which was awesome. My legs were feeling really weak and tired just sitting around. Probably because I was nervous. My HR was pretty high too from the cold. The meet was moving fast (not that many teams) so Corey and Steel and I got a head start on our warm up. Lots of bathroom breaks leading up (I was a pee machine), but we eventually decided to head outside. Jeff joined us and we did a loop around Berea lead by Chris (he obviously knew where to go. Ran down Runn rd enroute. Got back right as they did first call for the women, so we sped up the stretching and spiking up.
I was honestly freaking nervous right before the race. I didnt know what was going to happen or if I could do it. Somehow I got the "Dont think, just run" mentality right before the gun. We went off and I just ran. I didnt look at paces (I hit a 5:00 mile. Thats all I know) I just tried to stay with a pack and move when I though I could. I lost a BW guy with 800 left, and really wanted to surge to catch him. I tried but couldnt go on the turns. On the last lap I just threw the hammer (took a rare candy) and went out wide to pass and finish hard. I was very tired at the end. My eyes were closed most of the lap and I dont really remember it...
Ended up tying my PR i guess. I have run at BW 3 times, and every time I have run a 9:31. Kinda funny. I was hoping to break 9:50, so I am happy about where I am at. I really ran the way I want to run. It was fun and I felt fast during the race, something I havnt been really feeling in workouts. I dont want to speculate too much, but the article CKells found said I should add 20 sec to my flat time. I like those results. I am going to ride with it.
Did a little cool down in the bball court and track with Corey before we had to get back on the bus. Stretched and iced real well when we got back to the dorm though. Foot was still a little funky (shin and toe still hurt a little) didnt feel it in the race at all though (Biofreeze). Also, back and knee was good to go. Its hard to believe, but sometimes an injury can take longer than anticipated, even if it is one year.
I can believe I finished a race. That one was for Coach Fravil.
