Veale to MLK (through Little Italy)
5xMile @5:30 with 1:00 recovery, 5:27,5:28,5:32,5:29,5:26
mile back to top of MLK+same warm-up, ran with Mike Leslie for the Mayfield part of CD
This was my first workout since January 26th so I was ready for a potentially rough time. It was faster than a tempo and slower than interval pace so I did get a little more tired throughout but it never felt uncomfortably hard. This was the fastest I've run in a long time and it felt awkward, not necessarily bad, but awkward. I think Coach chose wisely in giving me this workout first because I would have had trouble with anything faster.
The bottom of my foot issue I've been having for most of the last week is 100% gone. I felt the peroneal tendonitis a little around turns and during the cooldown but it was not a huge issue during the workout. My knee felt perfectly fine. I did give myself a nasty blister from a poor tape job a couple days ago and that was my largest "injury" concern, so that's good.
From a conditioning standpoint this went okay, certainly better than Coach's expectations that I would struggle not to fall of pace after three, but not to where I am ready to run a PR quite yet. In a sense this is good, I showed I am in an acceptable starting position, but I fully understand how far I still have to go for my comeback to be successful. I know I have to catch lightning in a bottle. There are 3 weeks to DePauw and 6 weeks to Outdoor UAAs. I am a longshot and a darkhorse to do ANYTHING at this point. I remember people telling me to just retire or to train for Hudsons and I want badly to prove them wrong. Right now, I have not done that and am still pretty far from PR'ing but it's not over right now. Disillusionment aside, this is a long road and it is going to suck. But, I will never, never, never, never, never, never, never give up.
