WU: Soberlook to MLK
4 mi tempo, ending at mile mark
CD: mile mark to start of MLK back up to Soberlook
This was a mildly disappointing workout with a few silver linings. I was trying to do 5 miles at 5:45 pace but my legs were just not having it at all. I was tight and my legs (especially my calves) felt heavy right from the start. I started to fall off pace for the third mile and decided to speed up and try to keep it together for four since Coach told me to do 4-5 at 5:45. I would have liked for this to have gone a bit better and I would have liked to have some life in my legs. My stomach was also irritable from too many days in a row of iron pills. The wind also made things worse.
The silver lining is that my heart rate at the end was only 168, which is very, very, very low for me on a tempo, quite possibly my lowest recorded for all four years here. I know I didn't do all that much in this workout, but at least my cardio appeared to perfectly fine. Two and a half weeks ago I did a four mile tempo in 6:02 pace with a 192 heart rate so this was much better.
I think it is time to reduce my mileage, maybe 70 this week and 55-60 next week depending on my racing status for OWU. I am hoping if I just cut back enough, I can get my legs back under me before I lose all my cardio base I have been trying to rebuild over the last month. Going from 0 to 60 to 70 and holding makes my legs tired and I think it's time to give it a rest and see what I can do.
