Depaw invite today. Ran the 15 and the 8. Coach came up to me on the bus and told me I was gonna run a workout kinda with Ty but not really.
So went out in the 15. I felt okay warming up. Not great but definitly on par with how I felt warming up last week before the 5k. Got out decent towrds the front. Dropped into my usual sppot on the leaders shoulder and settled in. Knew it was slow by feel, a guy moved up around into the lead and I shifted around to move up right to on his sohoulder. Settled in again. Then we hit the quarter, 68!!!! NO ONE CARES WHO WINS THE DEPAW INVITE 1500!!! All that matters is time. So I just took it. Basically led the whole way till the quarter to go. Didn't do a good job of forcing the pace. I just haven't led till kicks in forever. Didn't get away. Jake Waterman the 800 runner up and NCAA's indoors passed me. Did a fairly good job of moving with him the last quarter. Just really didn't have the legs coming down the stretch. I was a sitting duck and got passed by 3 other people the final 150. Horrible feeling.
Looking back on it I don't really know if I would have had the legs for a faster run. I felt pretty bad mid race. That said I did run like a 62 for the last lap but thats not really kicking for me. I know it was windy but indoors I ran the about the same time (converted to the mile) and closed in 58.xx. Don't know what it was. Just didn't have it. Slowest time I've ever run in college. Didn't even bother to look at the results. Ran like 4:10
The open 8 was absolute shit. Thats the only way to discribe it. Horrible. I had nothing at all the final lap. Nothing. The wind completely killed any hope I had of moving in the final stretch. Also slowest time I've ever run in college. Like 2:05 didn't look at that officially either.
Needless to say the workout was canclled after those stellar performances.
On the cool down did 4x30 sec pickups with David Dixon on a 2 min cycle.
I really don't know what happened. I pride myself on being consistient race to race and week to week. Obviously some races are better than others but I really take pride in my ability to pull it out for the team when they need it and to put up consistant solid races and times, and to compete up front every time. I just don't know what happened here.
Going through this week I but in good training. I went HARD wednesday? MAybe thats it? Maybe still tired from the 5k? Maybe I was overzealous on the squats wednesday after practice? Maybe because I didn't jog after the bus ride? Who knows. All I can say is I hope I'm back to usual next week. I need the confidance.
Shout out to Brooke for her awsome steeple debut and Peter who ran really smart and rolled in the 15 and the 8.
