Well, its been one year. Looking at my race its kind of amazing I have made it this far. I am at the level I used to be at, now I just need to propel myself up to the next.
It was a nice day out, cloudy but warm. Had some time to sit but David and I got to our warm up right on time. Ran out on the recway Vaughn and I did last year, then around campus. Got back, did hurdle warm ups, stretching, drills, spikes, then a few run throughs. I felt ready, and I was for the most part there.
Going into the race, I was seeded high, but I didnt really know wheter or not to go out hard. I guess I went out at what I needed thought (5:19) right on pace. It felt good. David was there I think through the mile. The water pits were the same thing I have been having trouble with. It is so easy to do them right in practice, but I cant keep the mentality up in the race. Its all a mental barrier. Whether it be a workout, simulation, time trial, I need to be ready in a few weeks. Anyways with 1000 to go I was still on pace, but then heard I was slowing down, started to shit the bed, and cruised in right to what I was at last meet. The cool part was the guy infront of me fell on the last barrier and I caught up to him and pasted him right at the finish.
I am really proud of the 3rd place. I want to be scoring points and contributing to the team. I know what my goal is for UAA, and it still stands. I want my name to be in there.
Also nice debut for David. Experience is important, and that was a respectable time for a debut.
Cool down around the town with David. My stomach was cramping up a lot kinda nasty. Also threw up some. Stretched and stuff on the infield. Legs beat at the end of the day. The beginning of this week is gonna be really tough. Ill use next weekend to prepare. I know I have the race in me, its all mental at this point. Rubin always says have your best race at the Conference meet. I have never been on a stage like that before, and I think it will help. I havnt been getting nervous for races lately, just nervous in them. I just need to buckle down, grab onto a CMU jersey, and race. The kid from Albion who beat me today never broke 10:00 before today. He ran a 9:47. I am still looking for that race.
Also went with Corey's mom and sister to Tim Hortons, which was so awesome. It was funny and delicious. Also I edited this log like 3 times thinking of new stuff to say. Its hard to express my emotions, because I am so happy and excited to be on the team again and having fun at races, but I am frustrated that I cant get down that perfect race. I should know, its all part of the race.
