Honing the Kick

April 11, 2011 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Pouring then better!!

Comments:
Ran a track session alone today. I've been feeling my kick is lacking a little these past few weeks so when coach asked what kind of workout I wanted today I didn't hesitate to ask for a kicker one. Decided on the 8/2, 6/2... workout.
It was pouring on the warmup and I kinda waited it out with the 800 crew before finally doing some strides and getting after it.
Felt pretty good. Just tried to relax on the sections up to. Shooting for around goal 5k pace but I really just tried to run relaxed 5k pace and not fight the wind.
Pick up the 200s. Just stepped them down like usual. I'm happy I could run similar splits to what I was hitting in indoors but in the elements today. Shows where I've come.
Afterwards the steeplers were doing 200's over hurdles so I jumped in with that. My trail leg sucks. Its holding me back off the hurdles. I need to keep it up more and pause at the top so I can get more power comming out of the hurdle. I'll work on it a lot tomorrow after the run. Otherwise feeling good. The running between hurdles felt really good. Even after the workout I felt like i wasn't tired over them.
We'll see on Thursday for the real fatigue and how to do it. I really don't know how to run. I guess I'll go out conservative and see. I should probably talk to Ben....
