December 24, 2008 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Went to Brace Place to get new orthotics -- for the first time since Feb 03! They definitely feel weird -- lots of support, which should be good.
Did the trifecta at Anytyme afterwards: elliptical, lift, and a short run (and stretching and circuits, soo...qunit-fecta). No pain during the elliptical but I did only 20 minutes. Had the brace on.
Got in a good lift, then did circuits (TOUGH after this new 3-set routine), the stretched and foam-rolled before putting the brace on and trying the treadMEAL.
I've decided that what's f-ed me in my past attempts at returning to running is that I start running and my already tight ITB/VL get SUPER-TIGHT in response to the running and then they start pulling the 'cap...overpowering taping, bracing, whatever. So in addition to BTS'ing, I'm going to stretch a lot (before and after) and run to the pain/tightness about every other day or so (or a tiny bit each day) to build some resilience.
Felt OK 'til about 2K then global knee pain developed. Tough to not have pain when there's a horrible tug-o-war going on between the brace and my ITB/VL (and hip flexors, AND hamstring, AND calf/peroneals!). I pulled the plug just after 1.5 miles.
Weighed in after the big day: <159. That was nice to see. And unlike previous sub 160 readings, I'm not going to "celebrate" by binging on shit.
