Something New in the Shoes for St. Nicholas's Day

December 6, 2011 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 40 Light Rain

Comments:
I saw Darrell Reed this morning to get my orthotics resurfaced. He also took a look at my knee. I described the incident and he examined me for a torn meniscus. He performed the test on my healthy knee and told me it might hurt A LOT when he did it to the other....but nothing happened. After poking around some more, he decided that I have a bone bruise, patellar tendonitis, and some maltracking of the kneecap. While the other injuries may contribute some pain, he said the bone bruise was really my main problem. It should take 6-8 weeks to heal, but the good news is that I am allowed to run on it to whatever extent the pain is tolerable without making it any worse.

Now for the RUN (!):
Veale up E116th to MLK to Buckeye to North Woodland to Coventry, back Fairhill through the Meadow (with Ethan Teare the whole way, Brandon Reidlinger and Nate Mercer for most of it)-

We decided to play a game where every time we came to a four-way intersection we would alternate who picks where we would go. It ended up giving us an interesting semi-ghetto run although with the rain we didn't have any problems. My knee hurt some but it was tolerable and honestly felt better than I had expected. Ethan and I ended up talking about track. Perhaps this knee mess is a blessing in disguise for me since it will keep me from going overboard now. I'm running track this year because I'm here, I can, and I want to. I am not here to run and I am not alive for the purpose of running. One of my greatest shortcomings in past years was letting running, successes and failures, dominate me to the point where I could hardly stay sane running. I'm not doing that anymore. Those days are over.
