fun run got it all figured out

May 30, 2008 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
nice run. was running down tuckerman saw martin stopped at CJ to chat. then sam epstein drove in and i did right about 7 miles with him. we picked it up along the way it was a nice run felt great never got hard at all talked the whole time it was fun.

i think this will work. as long as i can communicate with martin as to when were going to start doing speedwork i'll be good. last year we did speedwork so early and I was still doing 60+ at the time and that made my body break down. But as long as we stick to strength work until the last month of the season or so which is the time to do speedwork and drop miles to peak I'll be good. Mileage has never injured me just speedwork.
I've always responded very well to base. 6:39 5 mile race pace at twighlighter which is a hair off my 5K pace and that was also a very humid evening. that was also the week of my highest mileage ever (hit 63 that day after 2 mile cooldown) and then time trials was amazing. second mile was 1 second off mile PR even though its TOWERS
as long as me and martin have a plan mapped out at the start of the season as to when he wants to do speedwork, what kind of workouts well be doing/how many miles i should be doing etc how much i should drop my miles, etc. i will be able to take advantage of the base and then finally the peak when i drop my miles a lot. then i got a real shot at top 7 at counties.
i dont want to just have a good season otherwise i'd be a lot more conservative this summer but i will be dissapointed if i dont get to run at hereford.
i think my recent injuries have been rooted from poor communication mainly on my part. i think if martin understands my goals and my last summer then he won't think i'm so crazy for running a lot. but this can definately work as long as im not in the same situation last year doing 60+ compounded with speedwork. there better be mainly high-mileage friendly tempos and towers and martin said there would be mainly strength work and im really excited about that

i think one day a week im going to have a day dedicated to leg speed. adn this will help the transition to doing workouts in the season thus taking a major measure to ensure I WILL NOT GET INJURED. it'll be just like martin told me to do a 3 mile tempo. ill warmup to CJ tempo and cooldown back home. then i can double- sam epstein suggested this: head back to the track adn do relaxed 200s still like a 12 mile day. hey look im following 2 people's advice one of whom is the coach.

so i've got the safe build to what i can handle. the once a week transition-helper. the strength work NOT speed in the beginning of the season until i drop my miles. and finally peak at counties and make top 7 run regionals and states.
