Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
This was not one of my better workouts this year, not because there was anything physically wrong with me, but rather a question of poor execution.

After defending my thesis this morning, I was having some trouble motivating myself through this workout, especially alone in the heat and wind (77 in March...WHAT?). I started out with the 800s, convincing myself they should be pretty easy and they were.
I was having some strange inability to run at anything even close to even splitting on the 1000s. I decided to start of shooting for somewhere between 5k pace and 10k pace and do four of them. I was feeling horrible for most of this with my legs sore and feeling heavy and my stomach hurting from eating out for lunch with my thesis committee.
By the time I got to the third, I felt like I was struggling and forcing it, but told myself I was done soon no matter what so I may as well stopping wishing it to be over and just run. I kept going out way too fast and positive splitting by huge margins. It was a pretty good example of how not to run a workout. My form was terrible. Somehow I managed to pull myself together on the last interval. I realized right after finishing that the last interval was the only one I really tried on and the only one that was even remotely close to even split.
After that I almost started cooling down but then realized I had to do 200s at race pace. I tried shooting for 39s but failed miserably at making myself run that slow. I guess I need to relearn just how slow 10k pace is.
This was a workout that was bad entirely because I was too big of a sissy to get myself to do it better. I guess the only silver lining was the last 1000k and that this looks doesn't look that bad on paper; it seemed like it was going worse than this when I ran it. I always sort of knew this was going to be difficult to do well right after defending, but I need to do better than this in the future. I'm not done yet and I really ought to take that fact to heart.
