The Blind Fartlek at the Farm

August 22, 2012 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Out to the farm today to do the blind fartlek, everyones favorite. I got to limber up a little before since I drove the van (walked down to veale first to get it). There was also rumors of construction on Fairmount, so we took a little different way to get there. Otherwise, all the regualr shenanigans were present as we made our way back out to the farm. I havnt been out there in a while, and I missed it. It was pretty hot overall and dusty. We did a nice warm up around the first loop. I flet pretty good actually hammy and calves/Achilles felt good. When we got back, I put on my brace, just for precaution. The ground was rooty and holey, and I didnt want to risk anything. We then drew the paper slips to determine our order. I knew I got a big one as soon as I looked at it... Lead some drills before heading out. We did another little warm up before starting.

I wasnt in the front of the pack for most of it. I drifted from the back to the middle. I had the 4th interval, the 2:00 segment, which I lead decently. I felt really good on that segment actually. After that, my legs started to feel the turnover I was producing. I recovered pretty easily, not to tired on the slowed recovery, but I just had difficulty getting my legs to go fast. Common theme, I really get my leg speed throughout the year, rather than retain it easily. Thats a good sign because I felt good on most parts. Fell to a crawl on a few near the end, but surged back on the last few. Very happy when we stopped though lol. Good thing is my legs felt good, like they were getting a real productive workout.

For the first workout, good, want to get the agressive and confident mindset coming in more too. Thats all up to me, and I am pumped to bring it in.

Did a little more of a cool down with Brent, Gabe, and David. Nice and slow pace.

Essentials: Stretch, L7, roll

Stretched it out with Gabe as people were starting to pack up to roll back to Leutner. People were rushing, and getting crammed into the vans. Classic. Also had a few skirmishes on the way back which were good. Overall a fun workout, kinda near the back, but a good start and platform. Here we go.
