Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Got to sleep in a little since we had a home meet! The annual dual meet against Carnegie Mellon. I love this even it signifies everything great about our rivalry. What a lot of fun. Legs were actually feeling good this morning and I was pretty excited to run. Drove down in the very very wintery conditions, and went to Fribs to get a little breakfast first. Im glad I can eat whatever lol.
It took a while for Carnegie to get there, but fans and family were rolling in. The atmosphere got pretty competitive, but it wasnt as big as last year I felt. We were pumped up last season, but it was kinda a foreign feeling this time. Still part of the transition I think. The first few races were exciting though. Kinda got me pumped up since I wasnt really thinking about my race. I am transitioning...
Warmed up alone out around severance, pit stopped in Thwing (I drank a ton of water and had to pee a lot leading up to the race. It was snowy but nice to run outside. The throwback warmups were clutch lol.
When I got back things were right on schedule. I was kinda excited to run a mile havnt done it in a while. I had no expectations though, I just didnt want to get beat by the field and get embarrassed. Did drills and check in, then got my shoes on. The striders felt pretty bad, I felt tired after each one, and didnt feel like I wanted to go and race. Not what I am looking for... I kinda threw it off and prepared for the line. Hammy was fine and ankle was all taped up too so those were good to go.
Blank slate, no nervousness at all for the race, even though it was my first indoor race in 2 years almost. Why? I guess it was low stress. The gun went off and I fell way into the back. Almost immediate loss of contact. In the back of my mind, I didnt give a shit. I kept running knowing I wanted to have a good second half (this race seemed to be a microcosm of my traning strategy). Kinda cruize in the pack for the first 3 laps, then started to hammer as best I could. I picked off Mercer and Chris E and kept going. I did start out too slow since I was atleast 3 second behind the top guys. I caught Phil at the end and had a great kick though, with more people around I could have started it earlier. Its tough to start a kick early indoor with the curves, but it is something I want to work on in the next race. Negative split by a fair margin, which I was happy with. Slow time though, but I was happy at the overall execution and being realistic with my training. I think I am in better shape to run faster, and this was a great opportunity to understand that, move forward with it, and have fun in the process.
Stuffy indoor air caught up to me at the end, so MJ and I wanted to get outside ASAP. Started out on a Cool down and picked up Phil. Northside and back, dropped off MJ and phil and I added a little extra around the hospital. Nice chat with Phil.
Essentials: Stretch, L7, roll, Ice ankles
Staying safe on the indoor track, stretching down Dont feel too sore after, but I was tired afterward. Great stretch tough legs feel good. Ankles are fucked though, fell in a whole a little and left got a little twisted which sucks, its kinda sore and swollen, but not a bad roll. Nurse it. Nurse both of them...
In the end of the meet it was kinda disappointing. We got wrecked, but I didnt feel all that emotionally attached. It kinda just slipped by. I think because I am comparing to the intensity of last season. It is funny though no school has had the Obelisk two times in a row. I think it will be a big deal next year. CMU seemed really pumped up though, and I felt good about that. They did great. We had a bunch of great performances that got overshadowed I feel... I guess I just have a Kinda weird feeling overall because I wont be here for the first day of indoor UAA and other stuff w/ grad schools and graduation is going on. My season seemed to just be getting started. Aiming for Outdoor All Ohio and Outdoor UAA. I think this race helped that, helped me get into my place on the team. Experience is my most valuable trait this season, and I am utilizing it.
