BW Mid Feb Meet

February 8, 2013 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
First BW meet. A staple of the indoor track season. I guess this means we are in full swing. The 3k group got to leave later which was awesome, since I went home and packed and regrouped. Also got to eat dinner beforehand. I knew it was gonna be a late night... Drove out in big blue and got there right after the 5k ended :(. The meet started to slowly run behind schedule. There were a ton of people there. More packed then I have ever seen. Mid way through the meet, we were 1 hr behind schedule. At a 10:10 race time, this made things worse. We kinda chilled around and took our time, hanging out in the bball arena. The line to the bathroom was long, so I went out into the parking lot to pee. MJ brought us Taco Bell, and Chippy and I both at a taco about 20 mins before the warm up. It was crazy I know, but I am all about having fun this season, and that was the fun thing to do. We went out on the warm up down Bagley to Runn Rd, then took side streets all the way back. Ended up being a good distance. We added on the 2 min tempo in the parking lots behind the dorms. I was feelin pretty good, ankles hammies all intact. Pretty excited. This was a good race for us to go out and have a fun positive time. We were all in the same heat so we could pack up and work off each other.

We got back, had some confusion in spiking up and checkin in, mostly because the heats got combined, so our time was shortened. Did some quick striders and then spiked up and got everything in. It turns out that the gun went off at 11:20, the latest I have seen this meet. Ridiculous.

Goal for all of us was to get 38s straight through, that was 9:30 pace. I have run 9:31 on this track every time I have raced lol. It would have been nice to break. Since we were combined, it was a big race. From the start it was kinda clumped, but we spread out. Alex and Tony went way out, and CHippy and Gilad went on the chase. I settled into 38s perfectly and started racing. Felt real smooth and good on the straights, spiked felt awesome. Tucked in on the turns and tired to hold my speed. Kept right on pace through 5 laps, Tony and I made a nice group hitting those 38s. Same story until 5 to go. I started to feel it there. Made a gap on Tony, but started to slip in the pace, dropping 40s. A real problem with me I need to maintain that speed after the half way point. I couldnt really hear, but I could tell it was slower. Tony passed be with 400 to go, and a BW kid from Dongs school was also in sight. The crowd was going nuts and that helped. I picked it up and surged, and as usual threw the hammer down with the last straight away and passed Tony and Dongs friend. Didnt know my time but I knew it wasnt a PR, but it was still a fun race that I felt good about.

Cooled down a little outside with a box of pizza. We are crazy. Lots of dicking around today, but it was all in good fun because I think some people had some good performances, and def ones to work off of.

Essentials: Stretch

Not to much in the way of stretching we had to go. Still legs feel good afterward. Tired but good.

Rode back in the van, full of other shenanigans. Got more Taco Bell and a new parking sign. Freshmen... Got back soo late too. We doin work tomorrow though.

I am a little surprised I am running a little slower than I was a few seasons ago. I havnt been fully dedicated, with senior year here. I do think I have been "working into" the season my style though. This can be good determination to step it up. This season is going to be different. I know that I have more, and it needs come out earlier. I think I ran 34 for the last lap. Got to keep remembering it is fun to go fast!
