3x800 desc by 200. 11:55, 12:25, 12:15. For each 800, I started at about 65% and planned to build up, incrementally, to about 85%. What happened was that there was:
1. a minor difference between the 1st and 2nd 200 (say, 65% and 68%)
2. a big difference between the 2nd and 3rd 200 (maybe 68% and 80%)
3. a minor difference between the 3rd and 4th 200 (80% and 85%)
It was this way for all three 800s. I was ramping it up too much for the 3rd one that I couldn't go much farther for number 4. Even though I was aware of this, I repeated it. I just couldn't tame that nagging feeling that I had to push harder for number 3. The important thing from this workout is that I can recognize the different "gears." The T-Paces (min/100yd) for the three were 1:48, 1:53, 1:55. For this set of 800 yd, I'm happy with that and I know I can get more consistent with time.
5x100P w/foils @ 2'. For these I did not record time. My focus was entirely on stroke. For the most part, my hands exit the water smoothly. The greatest issue was with the entry. I caught my hands undulating just below the surface several times. From entry to the end of the power phase, my hands felt like they were moving a lot of water. My elbow curved which brought the hand closer to the body as it pushed water back. Then, nearing the end of the stroke, I forced the hand to the outside which helped push me forward and made the roll much more natural. Turning was a bitch! I tried a flip turn but that wasn't much better.
