Comments:
I was feeling a little nervous about being back on the track before the workout today, seeing as I usually feel very prepared by the first workout of the season (due to summer training pre-XC) but the week off as well as my week-long sickness had me worried that I wouldn't be ready to do a solid workout. But as soon as I got on the track, it was totally fine. The 2 mile felt really good--controlled and in a lovely pack with Sarah P, Julia W., and Isabel. We made some jokes and talked a little during the first mile, which kept it feeling relaxed. During the second mile, I still felt really good so I started pushing the pace a bit and focusing on my form. The last two laps or so, my lungs and legs started to feel a bit tired but I felt great after I crossed the finish line.
The sprints were another story, however. Anthony instructed me to treat them as glorified striders, so I wasn't expecting to go on a full out sprint. But still, when I started the 300 I realized just how unconditioned my legs are for sprinting! I'm looking forward to working on that later this season.
Overall, I was really happy with this workout. However, I didn't really hear any of my splits so I'm guessing a little bit based on what the mile split was and a couple other times. I'm trying to emphasize running according to feel rather than time; that is, run my very best where I know that I'm pushing myself my hardest rather than worrying about times or specific competitors or anything like that (well... maybe except for those girls in crimson or purple...). It's so nice to be back in track!
