Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Had plans to run with Brendan sometime today. I wanted to go after the Lax game since it was supposed to be nice out today. Most of my plans today got thrown off by Blarneys Blowout. As a grad student, I am not in the social loop of the university. I had no idea it was going on today. I had only heard stories about it but didnt really know what went on. Basically Blarney Blowout is a pre St Paddys day celebration. It is huge campus wide day of drinking and partying. Probably the biggest party of the year. Last year it got out of hand and a bunch of people were arrested. I heard stories about that. This year, it got started even earlier, and got out of control way faster. Some 3000 kids showed up to the townhouses and the riot police showed up. They arrested a ton of people and tear gassed the crowd. The students fought back and it got intense. Throughout the day the mob just drifted around campus from apartment complex to apartment complex, and the police followed. Never seen anything like it. This was more than a party, it was a rioting mob. I didnt even know Amherst had a riot squad... Anyways I was on campus studying with Brendan, just watching hoards of hammered kids wander around all the cops. I realized that going to the lax game would have sucked (we got beat really badly) and running would have been even worse, since I didnt really want to get caught up in a riot or get tear gassed. We pushed the run back to a night run after dinner.

I was hungry during the day, but digested enough to go out. Real nice run, its hard to coordinate with two people in the dark, so we hit a lot of puddles and went slow at first. Kept going out to the start of Mountain Rd. We wanted to add on a little bit, so we went down the hill to the left a little. Couldnt see anything, but it was a nice winding downhill. At the bottom of the hill, we turned around and raced back up. Its a perfect hill for repeats. Took a quick break at the top then headed back at a nice pace. Felt good tonight, the temp was awesome and the sky was clear. Good to run with someone too made it go by. Very calm evening despite all the chaos that went on today down on campus haha.

Essentials: Stretch

Good stretch. Legs werent too worked since we went pretty slow. Didnt really stop my watch at places where we walked through the snow or puddles, and overall we kept the pace easy. Feeling better than I did a year ago. This marks the day that my appendix started hurting, when I stayed home all day and watched Pimp My Ride, wondering wtf was going on, no thanks to Dr CKells diagnosis... Cant believe that was a year ago that event was a big deal. Scar is still there to remind me.
