April 6, 2014 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 65, sunny, slight winds

Comments:
I experimented today with getting all my homework done then running, rather than running as soon as possible. It worked out very well, but I don't think I'll make it a permanent change in my Sunday schedule. I left the house at around 4:55, starting off easily, having planned a new, snaking route that involved the neighborhood behind Kirby road. I would have to take Chesterbrook to Woodley, but I must have completely bypassed that road, so instead took Maddux Lane to the Potomac Heritage Trail (at this point I was picking up the pace, feeling good). Trying to avoid the boring six-mile route to Randolph street, I discovered a steep hill adjacent to the path. I had to walk through some muddy ground to reach the road, but climbed the hill and found myself on the left side of the top of north river street. Even after looking at the map I still don't know what I did. I got back onto Glebe which I took all the way past Marymount to 26th to 31st to home. On Glebe at around 37 minutes I wondered if I could make it home in under an hour. I started to gradually speed up and was soon running at a nice cruise, form-conscious, even, looking straight ahead. I decided I'd break an hour no matter what, returning--probably at tempo pace at this point--in 59:36. I took three cooldown laps around the house, did six short striders, stretched and did 15 minutes of strength work because I didn't do any yesterday; planks, squat-pushup progression to six, 42 lunges, 2 minute flutter kicks, Silverman drill up to 25, calf raises.
