Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Honestly had a hard time getting out of the door today. I spent most of the day at work. I went to the UMass home meet this morning, which was awesome. It was perfect XC weather and there were some good runners. The course looks just like the farm, so that was cool. I really enjoyed just watching the competition and the running itself and being in that atmosphere. Its weird being on the other side though, the spectator with the coffee cup, standing around on the edge of the course. I was getting Calvin updates from Little Joe at the same time as I was cheering for the Minutemen and Minutewomen.

Anyways when I got home, it was pouring out and I was really tired. Took a nap on the couch and then got a little more serious about heading out. Honestly, reading Davids log really got me out of my seat and out the door. It was kinda drizzly and cool out, nice half zip weather. Instantly when I headed down the road, I knew it was going to be a great run. Legs felt so solid and smooth. My Chipotle was settling well too. I was flying down Mill Rd, thinking about the races today. I added into the "Tree Farm" just to see where it went. I got pretty overgrown and wet, so I turned around. It wasnt much of an add on but I planned to add on more later. Hooked up to the trail and just let loose. There was literally no one else on the trail on the way out. The weather was bad enough that it was the "stay at home and curl up on the couch" weather. I was so happy to be out there though. Let my mind wander and my legs ride. Kept going through the lot and went to the other part of the trail. Didnt know where I was going since it was starting to get day, so I just turned around at a time. On the way back I still felt real smooth and picked up the pace. It felt awesome. I am still so amazed at how you can feel like shit one day and then super fast the next... I got a little stitch near the end of the trail but worked through it. I neglected to leave my headlamp at home, and since there are no streetlights in Amherst, I was in the dark on the way back, and had to slow down to stay even on the road. Still felt strong finishing up up the hill. I added a little on as well just to wind my legs down. Overall a fantastic run, havnt felt this good in a while. Really glad I got out the door. You never regret going for a run, but you always regret not going for a run.

Essentials: Stretch, roll

Stretch and roll in the side room. Legs are a little tight afterwards, around my calves and ankles. Knee felt good today, and so did my upper body. My mind was really working today on the run. I was thinking a lot about home running has been like a time machine for me lately. Whenever I run, I just think about and reminisce on old memories from being on the team. Its a good and bad thing, because it can be painful sometimes. Running isnt really propelling me into the future like it used to do. I dont know if that means that I should get serious about training for a specific goal (triathlon, half marathon, etc) or just stick to where I am because its what I like to do. Its kinda a funky subject, and its tough to work through alone. Speaking of reminiscing, I also had a crazy experience after the meet today. I walked past the playground at the elementary school and had to pause for a second. I was just standing there, wearing my nationals jacket. During the summer before senior year, I would lie in the grass there, visualizing taking our team through conference, through regionals, and onto Nationals, wondering what it would be like. Now, here I was, at the end of the journey, with my goals completely accomplished. You dont get moments of satisfaction like that very often in life.

No real need to write a short novel today, but sometimes you just have things to say.
