Weather: 50s, drizzling
Comments:
I had a lot on my mind before this meet: PRs, that it would be my last, finishing my season well, and so on. The team was a little less than focused, but we were still having a great day, neck in neck with Wilson. But I managed to (unlike at MACs) hold it altogether for one last effort in the 4x800m. Order was Zeke, me, Erkin, Tristan. We absolutely dominated. Zeke had us in second after a PR, with a guy in black about 20 meters ahead. I spent the first 150 meters reaching him, stayed on him for another 100m, then thought, "well I could just run with him. No way." So I blew by him on the curve putting us in first. There's just nothing like running with confidence. Anthony yelled at me to give Erkin a gap, and I just pushed more and more, despite running alone on the back stretch. Would've been nice to PR, but I tied it, so I can say I'm a 2:04 guy now. More importantly, we got some beautiful gold medals. It made for a strong first day, regardless of the balmy weather and poor officiating.
