Mt. St. Helens Climb

August 15, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Other

Weather: Cool and cloudy - sunny above the clouds, obviously

Comments:
Started around 7am. Took 4 hours up and 3.5 down. Hung out at the crater rim for about 45 minutes.

I never really felt tired during the climb, which makes me optimistic that I'm in the best shape since moving to Seattle. The following day, my quads are sore, though.

Anyway, this was a great hike. The first part was a leisurely hike through the woods. Then there's a rock scramble. Then the final push is in loosely packed ash. The rock scramble was the most fun and coming down through it was interesting, trying to find paths and such. The crater rim was just amazing. Looking down into it and realizing how powerful the explosion had to have been. Seeing how the dome is building the mountain up again. Very, very cool.
