We took vans into Pownal, Vermont for a 12-minute uphill tempo on a dirt road, and four minutes of recovery, followed by 2xTempo mile over some gentle, rolling hills with a two-minute recovery. Warming up helped calm my nerves and I found a rhythm pretty quickly. But by about 9 minutes, thwarted by the incline, my pace slowed while my effort stayed the same. I felt better during the miles and found a groove on the second. 5:51, 6:03. 1-minute six inches, flutter kicks, 20 supermen, 2x25 pushups.
