2016 CLE Half

Weather: Clouds, Wind, Sleet, mid to high 40s - no tights, underarmor + long sleeve + singlet, hat & gloves

2016 CLE Half:

First off, extremely thankful that the cold rain stopped and really held off for my race.

Warmed up about 40 minutes before. Quick drills and strides. Got to the line about 8 minutes before.

Really pleased with this race! My goal pace was 5:50 to 5:53 but I set that weeks ago. With this weather, I wasn't too confident I would hit it. Very happy.

Started conservative and after the first mile discovered there were no clocks on the course (what the heck cleveland race planners?! Do better). So, I really had no idea of pace until about 3.5 in when I met a jcu xc and track alum who had a watch. So I was able to find that my pace average then was a bit above 6. I held this effort until about mile 6 when I increased effort and took a shot at moving toward goal pace. I guess I was able to go below that! With the exception of a into the wind stretch right before mile 12 where I had a mental lapse, from 6 on I worked strong.

We'll see what's next.
