Heart & Sole 10K

August 20, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Down to Wooster for a tune-up race in the form of a 10K. My plan was to run Akron Half goal pace (5:40 - 5:46) through 4 - 5 miles, then based on how I was feeling, really race the rest.

Went out with one other leader - I was 5:43 with him slightly ahead. Remaining splits I got: 5:47, 6:00 (uphill straight), 5:37.

I stayed running my pace instead of racing the leader (ONU alum) to stick with my plan and feel the pace for the bigger picture. Thhen, the gap he got on me from that early on, really did not change and at 4 miles, my plan became to reel him in. I got close. If I had another quarter to half mile, I could have gotten him. So, really happy with closing that gap and with how my pace looked towards the end. Overall, I feel good about this. My goal pace felt ok until the steady uphill, but then I was able to pick it up and did not feel completely spent at the end. Without really stalling my training and not the best rest this week, I think this performance gives positive signs towards my goal. I also realized this is my first 10K race - liked it.

Averaged 5:23/mi for the last 3.2
5:50/mi for the first 3.

Most importantly, I was graced with the presence of Mr. Christopher Kelly which made the experience all the more pleasant.

Stretch.
