Revolution Run 5k

October 1, 2016 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Woke up on time somehow, it was rainy and chilly out. Perfect XC weather, not great all comers homecoming 5k weather though. I didnt really want to get up honestly. I was kinda hungry so I ate, digested then biked into campus. It was still drizzling a little bit. People started showing up but it was pretty quiet overall, kinda eerie. Didnt feel like the last time I ran it. I got in a good warm up/bathroom break, legs feeling shaken out. But ready to race? It was warm enough actually that I didnt lock up when I took my pants off so that was nice. Race was pretty small ~150 people, so I was up at the front. Started out just trying to hold a comfortable pace and not go too fast actually, I recall doing that once on this course. That was simple to do there where enough kids around to have a good pace and fell comfortable through 2 miles actually. I was right on 6:12 pace exactly through those two and it was good. Once we looped past the stadium and got back on the bike path, I could feel the strength and endurance just slip right away. Started slowing down, feeling cramped, and the pace plummeted, for everyone around me. It was tough but I knew with what I have been running it just wasnt there. I wanted to finish so I just ran it in up the hill and along the flat. A kid behind me started kicking and I could hear him coming but he never got to me. Took HR at the end, 160, so right in the range of a good tempo run overall, and thats actually what the pace felt like. Just kept walking straight back after finishing and went back to my bike, then got in a few more miles of cool down to shake out. I needed that, didnt want to get to chilly. Legs felt fine, but upper body was burnt and tired. It wasnt the mileage, it was the strength and the pace that needs work.

Essentials: Stretch

Did a lot of nice stretching, and actually stuck around for the awards ceremony, which was kinda cute. Students made up most of the participants. That put me in the next age group up, so I ended up getting second (again to Kris) and got a cool medal. Not too happy with the time or the last mile, but its what I would expect with the preparation, and it was good to get my legs moving a little quicker for once. They started tightening up and feeling really sore actually. I didnt hesitate to get back on the bike head home and hop in a hot shower. I actually also ended up taking a long nap as everything started catching up to me.
