This was probably not going to be a good day for me. I am sick and we were running hard intervals on a hilly course. It was rather ugly and I fell way back off the pack, as was more or less expected. How on earth did I beat all these people last Saturday? I managed to stay reasonably close for the first two intervals, so I am fine with that part. On the third, I dropped off significantly, but my time was still stable. The part I really did poorly was the fourth and fifth interval when I mentally lost it. I was pretty much defeated on the last one, but marginally kicked in garbage time so it looked "prettier" even though it was still ugly on the inside. I was disappointed with myself today, really for the first time all season. I know this was not my day to shine, but all the same I did not do a very good job of pushing myself to the point where I could not take it any more. Oddly enough, Coach told me she was pleased with how I ran afterward. I guess even though I fell off, I never totally went bust. Still, I responded in all the wrong ways at all the wrong times, minus the last 200.
Last year I ran this workout much much sicker than today and did unexpectedly well. I did not today.
