Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Very tired from last week and I wanted to sleep in. I still woke up and got ready for the race. Went a little bit on the late side. Biked up to Southwest and fit in a very short warm up around the stadium. Legs felt ok, springy even though I didnt really run much last week. I made it back, changed shoes, and got in some warm up drills. It was chilly and I wasnt looking forward to taking my pants off. Still a lot of people showed up today, and I felt ready to go. Got bunched up in the beginning, but I swong out to the side and made my way into a nice little pack by the time we crossed the street onto Commonwealth. The wind was whippin at us and we tried to stay together. Course was kinda janky, no real markers so we just kept rolling. I had a great race with Pat last year so I tried to find some other to run with today to keep pace. Put a surge up the hill by Conte and then made my way back to the other side of campus. At that point, could tell I was falling off the pace, stomach started to cramp a little. A few of the people I dropped started to catch back up and we formed the pack again going into Hagis Mall. Apparently they rerouted the course this year to make it actually 5k, and I was not anticipating that, so I kinda got knocked off as we added the extra section. I lost a little going down the hill but still had a pretty strong kick into the finish. Wasnt really looking at the watch but still surprised by the pretty slow time. Didnt know my place until afterwards but I was pretty far up there apparently. That I was pleased with.
Essentials: Stretch, roll
Hung around talking to some people then fit in an extremely short cool down around Southwest before stretching out a little bit, then going to eat lunch. At lunch, could feel my right IT tightening up and my knee getting sore. Also in the back. Maybe it was wearing the flats. I digested a little bit then made my way back. On the Rail Trail, I noticed some college runners from other schools. I stopped some Wesleyan kids and the told me there was a track meet going on. Wow! I turned up to Pratt and stuck around for a few hours watching the middle of the meet. Smallish early season meet, schools like Bradeis, Williams, WPI. It was a lot of fun for me though, just to sit up there and take in some races. Brought back great memories, and let me just chill and relax for a little bit. Overall, conditions not ideal, but still a swell race and good time for the rest of the community.
