I think the books are really helping. They've made me notice some stuff about my shoes and orthotics that may be causing my pain. The padding on my orthotics just suck, and my shoes have no cushion to them without the soles, so basically my feet have been slamming into the ground every day with relatively little support. Tomorrow I'm going to remove the padding on the orthotics and replace them with the still new soles that I removed from my shoes when I bought them.
Also, I've shortened my stride and quickened my footsteps. All of my steps really were big jumps, and each time I hit the ground it was with a lot of force. That's all I focused on for my run, and I ended up without that much pain. Hopefully things will just keep getting better as the days go by. I really feel like I can get in these miles now before the season starts.
