Boonsboro to Percivals Island and back

October 17, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Cool

Comments:
Same course as some weeks ago with an extra .6 added on. Gel at 1:10 and 2:20. Went through the usual routine and felt pretty good through 2 hours. At that point the knee started to hurt with every step. A couple of times, I needed to walk to ease the ache. Not a good sign. I did find that if I ran along the edge of the road or trail so that the hurting knee (left) was on the low end (toward the gutter) it did not hurt nearly so much. I had read that the slant in the road is the cause of many knee problems for long distance runners. I will definitely need some rest for the knee at some point. The question is do I look for pockets of rest in the last month of training or do I push through and then get a good long rest at the end. All the same, nearly 20 miles today at a pace slightly over 4 hours for the marathon and that with a good deal of walking in the last hour. Rock on.
