Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Freezing cold. Windy. Tried to tone that out and just race. Goal was to go out in 5:10ish and try to work up from there. Didn't know how that would feel since I ran 10:50 last year (while sick) and 10:37 was my previous PR (from JR year of HS). Went out with Will and usual co, probably in something like 2:34. Not really sure about that split though. My arms started to get really stiff and cold about three laps in. We went through the first mile in 5:10 but I wasn't feeling great. However, being on the track for the first time in a while brought some extra focus. I just really focused on pushing each individual lap and felt like I really dug in to my race. I ran another 5:10 to finish in 5:20. Really proud of this effort. Apparently Marcus O'Sullivan thinks that we lost about 8 seconds (1 per lap) because of the weather. I was also in the third row of guys at the start so I probably lost a second and a half at the start too. Maybe that means on a good day I could run closer to 10:10. More importantly, this race makes me excited to run some 5ks these track seasons, and makes my goal of sub-16 feel like a legitimate possibility as opposed to the pipe dream that I think it has been. Looking forward to the mile on Tuesday. Cooled down with Abe!
