Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Was out kinda late at bowling last night, so a little tired this morning. I wasn't too worried about ho wit would impact the race. We had our schedule set to get down there and get started. I was more worries about the state of my hammies, which were sore after yesterday. Matt and Olivia took the bus with me and then we met up with Sabrina. I lead a little warmup around the block before we waited inline for portapotties. I think we missed the actual start of our wave and became mixed but with the even slower wave. No one was checking so it didnt matter there was just a herd of people that went back several block. Well over 10000 people in the race. It took us several waves until we even got to the start line. I was a little frustrated at that point because I knew I wanted to run my pace and I was surrounded by a lot of really slow people. Tried to get some space as best I could and by the time I crossed the start line, I picked a decent lane near the sidewalk down Georgia to get into it. Could see the first few ks I was on pace right around 4:00. I kept passing people like crazy, and think I even jumped up a wave by then time we looped down Denman and West End. I put a ok surge on up Burrard then settled into the pace coming around the 5k right at 20:20. I could tell that was realistic. I kept passing people but didnt feel the speed, which I fine because I still had a ways to go. I kinda liked the next stretch down 6th since I run down there all the time and there were lots of fans out. I had a straight away but it didnt feel like a struggle. Started to struggle around a few k left, had some twists and turns and then a big downhill to the finish at BC place. Thats when it felt like a race and I struggled to pick the pace up. I didnt know what I was at, just knew I was off 40 based on the 5k split. I also didnt know when the finish was so I timed up my kick and made it in with some good effort. No one was passing me again that entire end section which felt great. I was gased at the finish shoot but quickly caught myself. HR was 160 so this in actuality was a tempo effort, just my leg and core strength is non existent. So with some time and dedication, maybe I am not in too bad of a shape? I walked off a little bit before trying to find everyone else because I had no glasses and no communication device. Luckily Matthew is tall so I picked him out and we all me up.
Essentials: Stretch
I did a little shake out cooldowm but my legs were pretty sore. Hammies actually held up very well, but my left foot was killing me feeling like a strain of some sort. I wouldn't doubt it I was cruising and could have tied up weird or slid around and something. After experiencing the mob scene inside BC place we walked over to Yaletown and got lunch. I got to stretch inside the stadium and that felt great. I was kinda hobbling as we walked around, so its clear need some rest moving forward. Worth the experience and the chance to race again, especially in such a huge event. At no point was I even remotely alone, in fact I probably could have shaved off a few seconds here and there from all the weaving through traffic. Glad we had just great weather and everyone seemed to have a good time. Im pretty tired after though but got to get back to the grind. Just want to nap to recover... Looking at the results, I finished in the 2000s but actually got 306 overall, which is crazy folks finishing near me must have been at like 1hr or so. Again, I really wanted to break 40 but I am happy with the race execution, the negative splits, and the fact that there were spots where my fitness could have failed but I kept pushing one more step ahead.
