OSU Club Meet

April 12, 2025 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 40’s; Sunny

Comments:
Bleh.

Warmed up a quick mile and change before breakfast. Senior grad pics with Eta, then beamed it to Union to catch car to BGSU. Hour drive, warmup, then right into the belly of the mid-distance beast. Managed to keep L knee in check with some MG and rolling out, plus glute bridges.

First 300 was kind of pitiful (right around 53), then realized I couldn’t waste a second, even if I wasn’t feeling in any kind of top speed. Next 400 was ~74, then 72, then closed in 68. BGSU stud outkicked me in last 100 meters for first place in second heat. Not mad at negative split, but wished I’d gone out faster because this was right around my indoor mile PR (converted). Jogged a bit, had a bite to eat (which I initially thought was foolish but might’ve saved me in the long run). A few strides and hopped into the 800, with no real game plan other than to hold on. Heats in all these races were massive – starts were packed and so first portion was always full of elbow shoving and hubris.

Went out in 69 and held on for dear life for a negative split, but went even (69mid, 68hi). Was 0.03 seconds off of Nats time. Will
Hopefully clutch up in 2 weeks time!

Another quick cooldown, few strides and into the 3k. Started out at ~80sec lap pace but quickly settled into hi-70s. Crossed 1500 in ~4:59, then second 1500 in 4:42 (69 sec last lap). Not my finest work, but glad I didn’t just fully phone it in. Got outkicked my MSU jogger in last 100, but I let it slide considering it wasn’t the apex of my racing abilities. Long-ish cooldown, then called it.

A far cry from last week, but I can appreciate that part of the canonical experience of being a college runner is a meet like this, with no real PRs, events back to back, no races to properly sink one’s teeth into, etc. I’ll take it. Will hit a proper taper the next two weeks, mileage in the 40s this coming week and in the 30s ahead of Concordia in 2 weeks. Shortish tmrw, OFF Monday.
