Comments:
The first mile of the race was way too fast. Guess what, I went out stupid in a 5:05. It was all downhill from there. About 1/2 mile into the race I got this big rock stuck in my spikes, right under my big left toe. I ran with the rock for a 1/2 mile, trying to get it out. Finally lost it in the sand somehow. Anyways, went through mile one at 5:05.

Mile two was horrible. It started out ok, but I quickly realized that the pace had really killed me. I stuck with Dan up and down the hill. I didn't mind the hill that much, either time. I passed people on the hill at least. I turned the hairpin and then my race started to suck. I was feeling so bad. I remember thinking, "How am I supposed to make it another time around this?". So the rest of the 2nd mile I quickly lost a lot of positions. Even when I attempted a surge to gain some spots, I would get passed right back up again. Coming up to the hairpin turn in the dirt I got tripped up by someone and ate it. Getting up from that quickly stole what energy I had left. I could tell then how bad my race was going.

The third mile wasn't much better. I slugged it all the way until the end. Made a pass up the hill, but quickly lost it on the downhill. After the hairpin turn I remembered Wednesday's practice, how good I felt that day. I was grasping at anything to save my race. I passed 5-6 people at the end.
