Enemy of the World

October 18, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
10 miles long, up to OLSH, ran with the team, then back to my house. Felt pretty decent. No shin pain.

I don't understand why people gave me any sort of hope that I'd actually make the conference squad. I knew I wouldn't make it after I ran on Saturday. Honestly, all season I've been walking a tight rope, and I finally slipped. That's it. I'm done. Season's over. No one cares that I was 6th at intersquad, or 10th at Sudeck, or 8th at CMU with a monster kick. All they care about is the shit show on Saturday. Its like the national rankings. No one cares what you've done earlier in the season, just what you did the past weekend. Doesn't matter if you kick ass in all your other races and workout, but if you have one off race after two shit-tastic weeks of training, you clearly cannot get back to where you were even though you've done it time and time again. Why did I even race at all before Oberlin? Did it even matter?

To continue with my rant, I came into this season out of top shape, and I wanted to take it easy to get back into shape. I didn't get to do what I wanted. Nothing about this season was what I wanted. Hell, even Reza had a better season than I did. This season was a fucking nightmare.

Even though my season might be done, I'm not. When my MRI results come in, if I don't have a stress fracture...I'm going to continue to build mileage for track, doing at least one workout a week. I plan on training with the team, not to prove anything to anyone except myself. If I happen to find myself keeping pace with the top guys, that's great, its what I'd expect anyways. In no way would I expect to race Conference, Regionals, or Nationals.

God help every poor soul that has to race against me in the Downtown Pittsburgh Turkey Trot 5 miler. They'll get to feel every ounce of pain and frustration I've felt this season.
