The last race

October 24, 2008 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: pretty good

Comments:
Even though my legs have been numb since the beginning, it pains me to say that the season is over.

My goal this year was to just make it to state. It was posted on my bathroom mirror and I woke up every morning and was like, "Yeah, I'm going to state."

When the race was over, I was sure I made it. I passed so many people in the last 400 part of the race. I knew we didn't qualify as a team, but I could just feel that my season wasn't over.

I walked up to the race results to see a number 28, but they took the top 26. Honestly, I just felt like a failure. I felt like I just did everything this year for nothing. Everyone I know on the team achieved their goal, and I didn't. I was so upset and discouraged. My heart dropped, and my head hung low.

I believe that it takes 10% ability and 90% heart to run a race. One of my favorite quotes is "Running is exceeding the limits of your heart." As cheesy as it sounds, you really cannot stop believing in yourself. Even though I didn't get what I wanted this year, I still have one more year, and I can do it. I plan on it.

The race went extremely well. My finish was the best of all season. I passed a lot of people, opposed to being passed a lot during the middle, so that was really a big achievement.

One more year, one more chance.
One more time to prove to myself it's my turn to shine.
Seriously.
Thank you coaches and teammates for a great year. You taught me a lot and I'm excited for my final year.
