Spartan Relays!

January 22, 2011 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Veale

Comments:
First indoor meet and I have a lot to do in not much time. I warmed up early for the mile (3 mile jog, 0.5 mile strides), and I think that caused me to lose my mental focus on the race. Ran that in 4:59.7 but mentally was coasting after the first lap. (34, 71, 2:25, 3:02, 3:43-44) I just ran kind of detached from myself, if that makes sense. Did some jogging and strides (about a mile) between that and the 800 (63, 2:17.93). With that, I was trying hard not to make the same mistakes i did in the mile. Went out hard and died in the second 400. Pretty similar to the 800 I ran at the end of last year on 2-mile training, but faster by about a second per 400. Third in my heat on that one, so that made me happier than finishing last by 12 seconds like I did in the mile heat. Coach Sylvester had some words of wisdom between races to help keep me in the game for the 800: "What can you do about that mile now?" "That's right, nothing. Don't worry about it." Long cool down. Watched the rest of the meet before warming up to work out. Ran 6x400 at goal mile pace (4:40) with 1:45 rest. Splits were (69.9, 70.9, 70.1, 70.4, 71.5, 70.6) They felt harder as I went, but none were all out. Cooled down and then stretched while waiting for Chris to finish his cooldown. Long day and a LOT of indoor running.

Sleep: 9 hrs
RHR: 52 (might have been lower but I had some meet anxiety going on when I got up)
