Uh oh

February 10, 2011 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Cold outside... 10-15ish

Comments:
Ran today on MLK for a short, easy pre-meeting pre-meet. However my right knee started bugging me when I was a little over three and a half miles in. It probably didn't help that beyond the half-mile point on the tempo course, the sidewalk gets progressively less passable. My knee thus far doesn't hurt when I'm running fast, and even if it did, it's not something that would impact a race, but I think it's time to drop the mileage some and get some quality cross training in. Mike Perisa said that right now he's doing every off day on a treadmill. I know that my races are longer and I have nowhere near the talent he does so I need to keep more running than that in my exercise diet, but I'd rather take it a little easy now and avoid a no-running injury later. Especially as I'm approaching the end of another competitve season, a little less running might be a good idea. I can keep my cardio base up with cross training and work on my speed in workouts.

Running-wise right now, I feel great. Cardio and legs have more power than I've felt so far this season. Wednesday's workout felt great, even though I'm still dealing with a cold. I'm running the mile and the 1000 tomorrow; I'm pumped and hopefully good times are in the making.

I'll work on core and strength a lot more in the coming weeks and that should also help sort out my knee issues.
