Comments:
Drove out to Allegheny College today for last meet of the season. Ill admit I was disappointed after conference, and that I ran a unimpressive race. I gave up on myself. I have been thinking a lot about this race. A PR would have been nice, but I am happy to end the season on a better note, especially because it is a path in the right direction. This year was a rebuild for me, and I think today showed me the light on the rest of the path that needs to be taken.
A storm came through shortly after we got there. There was a lightning delay, so it totally messed up the schedule. I was unsure of when to warm up and what the actually timing was. The storm wasnt bad at all which was the funny part... Anyways got my warm up on on the early side, ran around the XC course I assume. Came back to the track and did hurdle warm ups. Coach told me to not worry about the time, and just to be competitive. She said to just listen to her. I though that sounded good.
Brooke and Emilie were back by then, so I got spikes and did some strides. I felt really blind after taking my new glasses off. I am still getting used to them. I was in the second heat, so I just hung around and watched them before heading to the line.
We were all at the same pace. Right at the start we were slow. Hit a 80 for the first lap. It is hard to recover from that. There was some green kid that went way out. I pulled ahead to lead the chase pack. An Allegheny kid passed me and joined the green kid. At that point, I could have fallen off, but I felt more aware and stayed with them, passed with about 3 laps to go. Came through the 2000 on pace. W/ 800 to go, another Allegheny kid passed me, gapped me a lot, and I tried to catch him. I was gaining on him, but my 6th lap was so bad it wasnt going to happen. I was loosing it. The beginning of the race was awesome. Barrier good, water pits were so so strong. I was happy with this race. The time was slow because we went out so slow, but it was my strongest race this year I think, smartest also. Im happy this wasnt ending on a disaster. I actually had fun today. It feels good to go out there and have fun.
I am excited for cross now. The injuries are past. Still got to deal with little things, but with all my rehab tools and can kick up my training. With more milage and a actual long run, there is no reason I wont be 9:50 at the beginning of next season. I fell hard in the last 2 laps, but not because of my hurdle form, because I had nothing left in my legs.
Cooled down with Corey on the same I did a warm up, then stretched and rolled and L7 on the infield with Brooke.
My knee is still a little swollen and hurts a little. It cracks when I bend it. No problems running though, feels like a bee sting or bug bite... Just got to eat more advil.
Now I take my two weeks off. Might jog a little in Cali, but Ill try to do hip back hammies and abs and L7 to stay flexible.
