Robie to the River & back

May 19, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70 -> mid/upper 80s!

Comments:
Up not to early, and out to Robie before 10AM. Felt a little tired and feet sore-ish on the descent, then slowly warm-up up on the climb to Pointed Rocks. Rolled my L ankle pretty good once.

Tried to keep the effort light the whole way, but was running fast. Stopped for a top off at 49, then again at ALT. As I got to GG it occurred to me I'd be really early for Jake, so I hurried a bit to get to GG, then go all the way down to the river. I took the wrong turn and wound up at a sand bar (where I got harrassed by "Bosco"). Total OUT time was 3:10 on a running watch.

It was gradually warming up all day, so by the time I popped out of the woods at GG, it felt blazing hot. Did some dousing at the river, then headed back up, running nearly all of it (<17min).

Stopped the watch for only a few minutes, as Jake hadn't arrived when I got to GG. He showed up minutes later; with gels but no Clifs or extra water. F. By now it was really hot, I'd run 22 miles, and only had 3-4 gels. But we didn't waste time heading out to Robie.

Felt OK to ALT, where I got a generous water top off, but struggled a bit to Brown's. By the time I got to 49 I was pre-cramping. I took energy from Jake (gel, chomps) and guzzled water, and we headed out slowly toward Robie.

The descent was solid, but once on the flat, I was gassed: out of food, salt (I took 4 tabs) and barely any hot water. We shuffled the whole way until the climb, when the cramps hit and I had to walk. Ran into another runner and we all hiked together to the top.

GOOD effort: 3:10 out, 3:30 IN. Solid splits. Laid around at Robie for a while, then headed into town to grocery shop, then to MB for the start of camp!
