October 13, 2012 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: high-50s, mercifully dry
Comments:
Woke up at 0400 and hit the bike paths at 0430 with John, a former patient of mine, who's doing a birthday run. He's 68! He told me about this tradition when I saw him earlier this summer, so I was excited to get an email from him Thu about going for it. I knew it would suck, but I wanted to be a part of something pretty cool.
Ran with John and 4 other older guys (the youngest was 48), including another former patient - another of my favorite "old guy runners" in town. We rolled down the river, a couple out and backs, then back along the entire length of the bike path.
It was SLOOOW. Understandably, but it was really tough. We might've started at high-8s, but midway through we slowed to at least 10s, then 11s near the end of the first loop.
Besdies being slow, I was still tired from yesterday. I also had significant gut rot, presumably from the spicy pepperoni from last night! Yuck. Two deuce stops.
I almost pulled out early (<12), but I hung in there. Figured I couldn't puss out, and that I could manage the full 15.
Post-run: back to the apt for some breakfast, then to watch Chelsea's son Jake play soccer. Fun to watch a bunch of 6 yo's play! Met a bunch of her F&F - pretty big deal. :)
