Taken from my email update to Chelsea:

Got into EUG at 6, determined to make my Tuesday night run with the ultra guys in south Eugene. Got on my bike at 615 in the near-dark and rain and cranked it home...

-...made it a half-mile down Highway 99 when I blew a tire. F. My thoughts: "OK, lock the bike, stash the bag, you're running home". So I found this random building/business along 99 that had a bike rack outside. Looked in the building - vacant, empty - locked up, then went out back in a huge field and found an old, rusted trailer and hid my bag. While hiding it, a guy came out of the building and got in his truck. What did I do? HID, of course - not wanting to explain why I was snooping around the back of the building. He drove off, but not before locking the gate around the property! So I had to slide beneath the gate to get out. Ran 9 miles home, then got in my truck and drove back. Pulled in front of the gate, stepped out of the truck, and a second later (literally), a white SUV pulled up. And Lane County Sheriff's deputies stepped out! OOPS. "We got a report of someone lurking around the property." I explained the situation, and he described that they believed it probably wasn't a homeless/tramp, as they "usually don't have special pedals on their bikes...or wear a helmet". I had to take extra time to explain that, yes, I ran home, and yes, I biked to the airport...for travel. They let me in the gate, and I got my bike, bag, and freedom, without issue. Missed the run, but made it for the beer. Good story time, to boot. :)

Wore the black M101s again...
