Ramer Field Track Workout

May 27, 2009 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s, rain, "breezy"

Comments:
Lotta dicking around today. Had to run to Shopko to get a new battery for my watch this AM, and it took forever to get the damn backing off and on. Called MOOSE to look into insurance for my moving truck. No dice. Called my credit card company to see if they offered it. No dice. Called Budget and found out it would cost an EXTRA $400 to insure the truck, my stuff, and my car. And when I did the math and found out it would cost $500 in gas to drive that stupid thing, I said "Fuck this". The solution was finding "ABF U-Pack" company, which is going to drop off a trailer, which I load my shit into, and then they pick it up, drive it to Oregon, and drop off the trailer right in front of my house...for $500 LESS!

By the time I got all that shit squared away it was nearly 1PM. Drove to RFHS but a bunch of kids were on the track, so I had to go to Ramer, which I HATE. Right when I showed it it started misting.

Felt so-so on the warm-up: still a bit trashy. Also, my L outer foot hurts from the new shoes. Dunno what's causing that, perhaps the adidas being more narrow and less accommodating to my orthotics.

Stretched, 8 strides, and got after it. By the time I hit the line it was a steady rain.

I got this workout idea from reading Nick Symmonds' log from a couple days ago, where he did 3xK (5K pace?), then 5x400 (mile pace?). I'm not up for that volume yet so I decided on a single K, more uptempo, then 5x400m.

The damage:

3:04
70, 71, 72, 72, 72

ROUGH. I can't believe how SLOW I am. I thought I was running fast on that K, but I can't seem to break 3:00. I recovered pretty quick after the K, running 600m before getting into the 400s. The wind was light at first but became more and more substantial on the backstretch with each successive 400. Not very fun, nor was the rain, but overall I felt "good". Not fast, but not awful. I'm just way out of shape.

I was definitely spent after the last 400, so no 200s or anything else. Did a lap, then changed into the adidas for an easy 3 cooldown in the steady rain. By then I was SOAKING WET.

All things considered, it was good workout and "another brick in the wall".
