SPFD, Dorris Ranch to new path

March 16, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 50s, partly polleny

Comments:
Ran with Matt this morning, from his (my old) residence this morning. I actually forgot my running shoes; good thing he's a size 11 (close enough); wore some of his old Mizuno Precisions, which worked fine.

Started fairly easy going East to Dorris Ranch park (a nut tree grove/farm on the Willamette with some dirt trails), but picked it up to a legit pace fairly quickly. The path that connects Dorris to the other path - where I raced 15K last month - is still under construction, but we ducked around the barriers and tip-toed some mud and rock.

Ran out 5 miles, then turned back.

Really worked on the stride: being forward and "pushing out the back", like Alberto told me. ;-) Felt GOOD. Matt's doing a half next weekend, so as a last rust-kicker, we ratcheted down the pace so that miles 6-7 were in the low 6's, and last 2K or so (post-hill) were in the high 5:40s. Felt good and actually efficient - SO much better than it did a month (or two weeks) ago!

I think the reason I didn't do a long road run is because whenever I tried, it felt like shit. And it felt like shit because my stride was long and shitty! Pushing and sucking back in makes it a ton more efficient. And fast.

Body and energy felt good, well-recovered from my allergy-fest last night. AM runs are better because the pollen hasn't been whipped up by wind yet. Legs felt good, despite running in Matt's dead shoes.

Nice afternoon: did a ton of cleaning and laundry, and had a good convo with my bro, Steve.
