Spencer Hunt

March 26, 2013 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Jason ("Mr Roberts") led the hunt; I'd requested some vert, and he is a vert fiend, so he obliged.

No LB again (out w/knee pain); also no Tommy or Dan-O. But it was me, Mr Roberts, Mr Madsen, Meghan, Lewis and Clif and his friend Matt (who I met and did a 300m repeat workout w/in December).

We ran pretty hard out the gate and UP Willamette St, which is SUPS steep, the main grade up to the Spencer Summit trail. Ran HARD with Jason, while the rest of them were strung out. I didn't like the hard pace, but I wanted to make sure he knew "I could hang". :)

Got to the top pretty quickly, then waited only for a bit for folks to catch up before going UP the Ridgeline trail, til we got to "The North Face" - a steep, somewhat muddy straight-up ascent to the Spencer Summit (2000'). Hiked pretty hard with Jason and Lewis. Was TIRED; literally had like, 8 carbs, all day (via two apples), so I was TIRED.

Got to the top in 13min, pow-hiking (I've done it <10, running), then waited for folks to catch up. Jason had this evil plan of going halfway down, then going back up again, before heading back.

But when everyone finally arrived, he took off right away. Matt, who was NOT ready for this vert, was just catching his breath, so I hung back with him. He wasn't happy with the grind, so I hung with him 'til he was ready. Problem was, we lost the guys: didn't where they descended (there's like 3-4 different routes), so we went down the conventional route...and didn't see 'em. We waited at the parking lot for a while, but neither one of us wanted to summit again, so rather than wait (uncertain if they were even still there), we just headed back, us two.

A bit of a Hunt faux paux: never leave runners behind! Young guy mistake by Mr Roberts.

Stride felt pretty good; it was nice to run fast DH with Matt. Some R ab tightness...I think I know where that - and L hamstring - comes from: when I don't push off well (on the track/hard running, namely), the abs get tight and the L hamstring has to "reach" further to stride on the L. Gotta keep working on this...

Nice night...great pre-sunset.
