Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70F, nice

Comments:
Woke up at 0630 feeling decent, but still tasting the In N Out -- no surprise. Tried running a bit on the streets by our hotel, but by a mile the heartburn was so bad I had to stop and walk back! I stopped at 2 different hotels to get milk to "put out the fire".

Did circuits, cleaned up, packed up, and hit the road with Behrs for breakfast. Had some good cereal and a couple biscuits, but my gut was still terrible.

Drove west to the Redwoods on a brutal, winding road that lasted like three hours. Keith got extremely car sick and we had to stop twice before I handed the keys to him. That made him feel better, and I got to nap.

Didn't get to the Redwoods 'til like 2PM, which blew, but the weather was nice and we were excited for a ride. Set up camp at Hidden Springs CG outside Myer's Flat, CA. Great campground!

Hit the road on "Avenue of the Giants", heading north. Very cool. Stopped once to see some giant trees then hit Mattole Road west. The road was in rough shape. Road about 7 miles, stopped for a snack, then turned back. Rode back to the Redwood area, where to road got rough...when I got a flat. It was almost inevitable, the road was so brutal. I busted out my repair kit, but we quickly determined my pump wouldn't work.

Within minutes we stashed my bike, Keith got on his, and I started running. I didn't mind; this involuntary run was good because I wanted miles, anyway, and I was tired of biking.

The run back went pretty well; I was excited about this wrinkle in the plan, so I wound up grinding: turned out to be 6:20 or so the first few miles, then once back on the Ave of the Gods, it was in the 6:30s (slight uphill).

Keith biked back, picked up the car, and then got me. I actually had him drive ahead so I could round out ten miles. Then we went to get my bike. Coincidentally, within one mile of the spot where my bike was stashed, the Celica rolled over 200,000 miles!

Rode back in a nice evening sun to Myer's Flat to a grocery store, mounted up on some "nifty gifties", then returned to make an awesome dinner and fire. Great way to wind up a great day!
