November 19, 2013 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: foggy, 50ish, no rain
Comments:
OK day; felt good in the AM, not too busy, but I was annoyed that I had a 4:30 patient (supposed to be done by then every day, now). At 12:45 I had an opening so I went to get my 2nd allergy shot then. Got it, sat there the requisite 30min, then hauled ass back just in time for my next patient.
Did a typical lunch workout (a couple sets of strength and some indoor jogging), then started on my 3PM patient. Immediately into that patient I felt off...on a good sense, this "off" is what "normal" has been for a lot of my days recently:
- Tired
- Brain fog
- Nauseous
- Anxious
Then I thought, "oh, wonder if this is the allergy injection!?". Then, as I was working this patient (a relatively effortful mobilization), I started to REALLY feel bad: like rapid(ish) heart rate, difficulty breathing, and I was sweating! Oh shit! So I just focused on taking deep breaths. I remembered they were supposed to give me an Epi-Pen on Friday but they never did! Thankfully it settled down in about 15min, but I felt "off" the rest of the afternoon.
I didn't take a Zyrtek that AM (you're supposed to), so I took one when I got home.
Did the run, with slight reluctance: not that I was going to die, but because I thought the injected allergen would make me feel just like allergies. But thankfully, I felt good, again, today!
It was night-and-day compared to last week: felt really strong on the flats, and way better (but still not "100%") on the climbs. Lewis led and we did the "Constitutional Route": down to Amazon Creek/Rexius Trail, up Headwaters to Ridgeline, then Baldy and back to his house. Except the theme tonight was "no bridges" - so any span (or even elevated walkway) we had to go around! It was a little tedious at times, but overall fun. Didn't go all the way up Baldy, and instead ran through a giant "pond/puddle"; the funny thing is we did this precise puddle run a year ago ("Amphibious Hunt"), though it was thigh deep a year ago!
Felt overall SO much better; I'm very encouraged, and even more so by the "anaphylaxis" - since these are my exact fucking symptoms!
Long hunt, but still got in 7 easy miles. Did a "yellow beer" taste-testing, which was interesting: tried x6 shitty beers, and we had to rate all of them, blindly. Here's how they turned out (in order from shittiest to best):
Olympia
Miller High Life
Busch
Budweiser
Rainier
PBR
They were all terrible to me. I was going to throw half-finished "Empties" away, so I poured all of them into a pitcher and started collecting others. Lewis got pissed and said, "Give me some!" So I poured him some, and - feeling contrite - poured some myself and downed it. It was AWESOME! "Complex"!
